  • Crying or irritability
  • Problems hearing
  • Poor balance
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Fever of 100 degrees F or higher
  • Headache
  • Drainage of the ear

Many times, an ear infection may occur in your little one before they can even talk. If your child isn’t old enough to tell you what’s going on, then it is important to look out for these symptoms. O

Children under the age of three are at a higher risk of ear infections because their immune systems aren’t strong enough yet to fight some infections. This also means that it will take them a little longer to fight it off. Plus, children’s Eustachian tubes are smaller than adults, which makes it harder for the ears to drain. If a child develops a cold or respiratory infection, fluid may not be able to drain, which can cause an ear infection.

How are Ear Infections Treated?

If your child has a middle ear infection, antibiotics are usually prescribed over the course of seven to 10 days. OTC pain relievers or eardrops may also be recommended to ease pain and discomfort. If we prescribe an antibiotic for your child, it’s important that you follow the instructions exactly and make sure they take the medication until it is finished. Failure to do so could result in a rebound infection.

If your child doesn’t start to feel better within a few days, it’s important to come back in for another visit, as your child may need a different type of antibiotic.

Your child shouldn’t have to deal with the pain and discomfort of an ear infection. Call 7 Days Pediatrics in Woodbridge, VA today. Let 7 Days Pediatrics take good care of your little one.
